Saudi Forces Assault Egyptian Pilgrim Inside the Grand Mosque

Together for Justice strongly condemns the brutal assault committed by Saudi security forces against an Egyptian pilgrim and his wife inside the Grand Mosque in Mecca — a sacred site that should be a refuge of peace, not a scene of humiliation and violence.
This shocking incident represents a grave violation of human dignity and the sanctity of the holiest place in Islam. Despite clear footage showing the assault, the Saudi authorities have responded with disturbing silence, issuing only vague statements about the “detention of an individual” without clarifying who he is or what measures have been taken. This evasive reaction reflects a familiar pattern in Saudi conduct, where countless incidents involving pilgrims and worshippers are buried without accountability or justice.
The organisation affirms that this latest attack exposes the hypocrisy of the Saudi regime, which deploys its security forces to harass pilgrims in the House of God while offering full protection and lavish treatment to celebrities, concerts, and entertainment festivals. Such double standards reflect deep moral decay and contempt for the sacred values the regime claims to uphold.
Together for Justice calls on Muslim-majority countries and international Islamic institutions to form an independent international committee to investigate this incident and establish a permanent mechanism to monitor the safety and treatment of pilgrims and visitors to the Holy Sites. The organisation also urges the international community to pressure the Saudi regime to end its policy of impunity and ensure the protection of all pilgrims in Mecca and Medina.
Respecting the sanctity of the Holy Mosque and safeguarding the dignity of its visitors is not a favour — it is a sacred duty. The silence of the Muslim world in the face of such abuse is a stain on the conscience of humanity.
