Saudi journalist Zana al-Shehri continues to be detained for four years

Saudi journalist Zana al-Shehri has continued to be held behind Saudi bars since her arrest during the 2019 large-scale arrest campaign.

The random arrest campaign also targeted dozens of journalists, bloggers, and online activists.

Zana al-Shehri’s arrest came despite the Saudi authorities’ “historic” new rights granted to women in the Kingdom.

However, Zana Al-Shehri’s arrest is a vivid example of the worsening reality of women’s rights in the Kingdom.

Saudi authorities’ approach to silence and repress human rights defenders does not differentiate between women and men.

The 2019 crackdown campaign constitutes the latest wave of arrests the Saudi security forces have launched against activists, writers, and rights activists.

In this regard, Together for Justice calls on the Saudi authorities to respect freedom of opinion and expression and to immediately and unconditionally release the two journalists, Zana Al-Shehri, and all other detained journalists, writers, and bloggers.
