Three Letters Delivered to Saudi Embassies in US, UK, and Sweden to Disclose Fate of Mohamed Al-Qahtani

Abdullah Al-Qahtani, the son of Dr. Mohamed Al-Qahtani, has delivered three letters to the Saudi embassies in the US, UK, and Sweden, demanding the disclosure of his father’s whereabouts after more than a year of his enforced disappearance.

Al-Qahtani, a former professor at the Riyadh Institute for Diplomatic Studies, was arrested in 2012 along with a large number of the Saudi Civil and Political Rights Association (ACPRA) which called for focusing on the 1948 United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, an elected parliament, and the creation of legal institutions to support transparency and accountability in the Kingdom.

One year later, Al-Qahtani was sentenced to 10 years in prison, followed by a 10-year travel ban, after an unfair and secret trial.

Al-Qahtani was scheduled to be released in November 2022 after serving his prison sentence. However, he was moved to an unknown detention centre.

His son, Abdullah, sent the three letters to the Saudi embassies in Washington, London, and Stockholm as a final attempt to get answers about his disappeared father.

His mother, Maha Al-Qahtani, affirmed that her husband has been denied any family contact since October 24, 2022.

MRS. Maha Al-Qahtani has called the prison, hospitals, and local authorities daily for the last 14 months with no luck.

Together for Justice expresses full solidarity with the Al-Qahtani family and calls on the Saudi authorities to disclose his fate and all those who have forcibly disappeared in the Kingdom.
