Umrah trap: Egyptian social media activist arrested in Saudi Arabia for making duaa to Gaza

The Saudi regime continues to tighten its grip on power, targeting every critical voice at home, including new arrivals to the kingdom.

Well-informed sources revealed this week that Saudi authorities arrested the Egyptian social media activist Abdul Rahman Muhammad Abdul Rahim, after posting a video making duaa and expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip in light of the Israeli ongoing aggression.

Abdul Rahman Muhammad traveled to the Saudi kingdom along with his mother in October to perform Umrah.

During his journey, he posted several videos on his personal TikTok account, expressing solidarity with the people of Palestine.

However, he was surprised by Saudi security forces stopping and detaining him in Makkah. He was subjected to a tough investigation and later transferred to Dhahban prison in Jeddah.

We, in Together for Justices, received multiple reports about similar arrests of people performing Umrah after making duaa to the people of Gaza. Those detained in such circumstances were subjected to severe beatings, abuse, and even torture. They were also charged of supporting terrorism and violating the Saudi law.

Together for Justices stresses that Saudi authorities have turned Umrah into a trap to detain and suppress activists from all over the world in service of the Saudi agenda.

Together for Justices calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Abdul Rahman Muhammad and all those who were detained while performing Umrah and just compensation for the moral and material damage they were subjected to during their detention.
