It was unfortunately predictable—yet no less horrifying—that Israel would resume its brutal military campaign against the civilian population of Gaza. The renewed wave of deadly violence, unleashed in the early hours of Monday, 18 March 2025, reflects not only Israel’s systematic disregard for international agreements but also underscores the complicity of an international community that continues to remain silent, and the shameful inaction of Arab regimes, which have effectively given Israel the green light to proceed unchecked.
Today, residents of Gaza woke up to yet another massacre. Israeli forces deliberately targeted densely populated residential areas, timing their aerial bombardments to coincide precisely with the hours when families were sleeping or preparing for Suhoor during the holy month of Ramadan. As a result, over 412 Palestinian civilians, most of them women and children, have been killed, with more than 500 injured. Dozens remain trapped beneath the rubble of their destroyed homes, their fate unknown.
This escalation did not occur overnight. Israel’s renewed aggression follows a series of calculated and severe violations throughout what was purportedly a “ceasefire” period. The situation reached a critical point on 2 March 2025, when Israel permanently sealed off all crossings into Gaza, blocking all humanitarian supplies, medical aid, food, and fuel. Electricity supplies were subsequently cut off, causing Gaza’s water purification and medical systems—already fragile from nearly two decades of an oppressive blockade and a devastating 15-month-long military campaign—to collapse entirely.
The humanitarian crisis gripping Gaza today is a direct result of Israel’s conscious policies aimed at suffocating its people. Yet, equally reprehensible is the role played by certain Arab governments, whose normalization agreements and diplomatic overtures toward Israel have emboldened its leadership to commit crimes without fear of accountability. The Egyptian regime’s ongoing decision to allow Israel complete control over the Rafah crossing has further exacerbated the humanitarian disaster, removing what little hope Gazans had for relief or escape.
In this context, the dangerous role played by the Saudi regime under Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman cannot be overlooked in emboldening Israel to resume its brutal aggression against Gaza. The open-ended political and financial support provided by Saudi Arabia to the Trump administration, amounting to not less than 600 billions of dollars in military deals and contracts, reinforced the openly pro-Israel stance taken by the U.S. From the outset, Trump arrogantly provided Israel with an unconditional green light, shamelessly defending its “right” to kill and destroy, and openly threatening Palestinians with further “hell,” all while the Saudi regime maintained a complicit silence and clear official complicity.
The international community’s silence and continued diplomatic and military support—particularly from Western governments, led by the United States and the European Union—represents complicity at its worst. Israel’s impunity for such violations of international law cannot persist without the active or passive support of these governments. Thus, accountability must extend beyond symbolic condemnation; concrete action, including serious sanctions and immediate international investigations leading to criminal prosecutions at the International Criminal Court, must be urgently pursued.
Arab and Islamic nations must immediately halt all normalization efforts with Israel and demand the unconditional lifting of the siege on Gaza. Moreover, Egypt must reopen the Rafah crossing permanently and without conditions, facilitating unrestricted humanitarian access and evacuation of the injured.
Justice is on trial today. If the world continues to choose silence over action, the ongoing massacre in Gaza will not only deepen, but the blood of its victims will forever remain a profound indictment of international complicity.
